Message from the Chair
Mark Owens
Welcome to the online home of the Montgomery County Democratic Party. I hope you find our website helpful in understanding the functions of our local Party, as well as useful in letting us know how you'd like to help elect Democrats in 2010.
As we begin 2010, I'd like to reflect on what we have accomplished as a Local, State, and National party. In 2008 we elected Barack Obama and once again, Montgomery County was a Democratic County. We successfully returned two County Commissioners; Debbie Lieberman and Judy Dodge. We also returned Joe Litvin as County Engineer, Mat Heck as County Prosecutor, Willis Blackshear as County Recorder, Greg Brush as Clerk of Common Pleas Court, and Carolyn Rice as County Treasurer.
Additionally, we helped elect Judge Jeff Froelich to the 2nd District Court of Appeals and returned Common Pleas Court Judges Frances McGee and Mary Wiseman to the bench in 2008. In 2009 we returned newly appointed Judge Dee Logan to the Dayton Municipal Court, and re-elected Dayton City Commissioners Nan Whaley and Joey Williams.
In 2010 we have a big challenge. On the local level, County Commissioner Dan Foley is up for re-election as is County Auditor Karl Keith. Governor Ted Strickland appointed Judge Connie Price to the Common Pleas bench and she will be on the ballot for the first time county-wide.
We also must work to re-elect Governor Ted Strickland. He has made great progress in Ohio, passing his first state budget with just one dissenting vote, and with his second budget made tough choices while implementing for education reform in Ohio. Attorney General Richard Cordray is on the ballot, as is Ohio Treasurer Kevin L. Boyce. We will also have strong candidates for Secretary of State and State Auditor. We will also have a strong candidate to replace retiring US Senator George Voinovich.
We as Democrats must continue to work together to ensure progress is made. On the National level, we saw a stimulus package passed that has already saved or created thousands of jobs. We are on the verge of passing the first significant health care reform bill in 45 years. On the State level, we have passed a budget that finally addresses needed changes in education.
Thank you for checking out our home on the web, and let's elect Democrats in 2010!
